How to interpret draw results
- ✓ CRS cutoff is the minimum score invited in that round.
- ✓ Draw type may be general, program-specific (e.g., PNP), or category-based.
- ✓ Your strategy depends on eligibility: FSW vs CEC vs FST, category eligibility, and PNP options.
The Three Express Entry Programs
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)
For skilled workers with international experience seeking Canadian PR
- ✓ Minimum 1 year continuous skilled work experience (NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3) in last 10 years
- ✓ CLB 7 in all four language abilities
- ✓ Minimum 67 points on the FSW selection grid
- ✓ Valid ECA for foreign education credentials
- ✓ Proof of funds (unless you have a valid Canadian job offer or are in Canada)
Job offers are not required for most Express Entry candidates. IRCC states that as of March 25, 2025, they no longer give CRS points for job offers (arranged employment). Source (IRCC)
How to maximize your FSW CRS score:
- Improve IELTS/CELPIP to CLB 9+ (+20-40 pts)
- Add spouse to profile if applicable
- Pursue a provincial nomination (+600 pts)
- Gain Canadian work experience → switch to CEC
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
For temporary workers already building their future in Canada
- ✓ Minimum 1 year Canadian skilled work experience (NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3) in last 3 years
- ✓ CLB 7 for NOC TEER 0 or 1
- ✓ CLB 5 for NOC TEER 2 or 3
- ✓ Plan to live outside Quebec
CEC receives frequent dedicated draws - often with lower CRS cutoffs than general draws

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Express Entry - updated for 2026
- Express Entry is Canada's primary system for selecting skilled immigrants for permanent residence. It manages three federal programs: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades (FST). You create an online profile, receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, and wait for IRCC to issue an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in periodic draws. In 2026, IRCC has been holding draws roughly every week - issuing over 49,000 ITAs in just the first 11 weeks of the year. It is the fastest route to Canadian PR for most skilled workers. Whether it is right for you depends on your education, language scores, work experience, and whether you have Canadian connections. We offer a free assessment to identify your strongest pathway.
- Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) is for people outside Canada with at least 1 year of foreign skilled work experience in NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3, a language score of CLB 7 or higher in all four abilities, and completed post-secondary education. It uses a 67-point selection grid before CRS scoring applies. Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is for people who already have at least 1 year of skilled work experience inside Canada in the past 3 years - no minimum education required. In 2026, CEC has been the most active draw category with CRS cutoffs around 507. Federal Skilled Trades (FST) is for tradespeople with 2 years of experience and either a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification in their trade. CEC candidates typically receive ITAs faster due to higher CRS scores from Canadian experience.
- The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system used to rank Express Entry candidates. Your score is based on: age (up to 110 points if applying alone, 100 with a spouse), education (up to 150 points alone), language skills in English and French (up to 310 points alone - the single largest factor), and Canadian work experience (up to 80 points). Additional points come from a spouse's education and language scores, having a sibling in Canada (15 points), Canadian education, French language ability, and provincial nomination (600 points - virtually guarantees an ITA). The maximum score is 1,200. In 2026, most general pool candidates score between 480 and 520. Category draws have seen cutoffs as low as 169 for physicians and 397 for French-language candidates.
- An ITA is a formal invitation from IRCC to submit a complete permanent residence application. Once you receive an ITA, you have exactly 60 days to submit - missing this deadline means starting over from scratch. During those 60 days you must gather: a completed medical exam from an IRCC-designated physician, police certificates from every country you lived in for 6 or more months since age 18, reference letters from all employers, your ECA if education was completed abroad, language test results, passport copies, and all family member documents. The government fee is CAD $1,365 per adult applicant. IRCC targets a 6-month processing time for complete applications. We begin document preparation with clients before an ITA arrives so the 60-day window is never wasted.
- Category-based draws allow IRCC to invite candidates with specific skills or language abilities at lower CRS scores than general draws. In 2026, this has transformed Express Entry. Active 2026 categories include: Canadian Experience Class, French language proficiency (cutoffs as low as 393-397), healthcare and social services, STEM (cybersecurity specialists), trades, transport, physicians with Canadian experience (record low CRS of 169 in February 2026), senior managers with Canadian experience (CRS 429 in March 2026), researchers, and national defence. Agriculture and agri-food was removed in 2026. If your occupation falls in a priority category, you may receive an ITA at a CRS score 50 to 300 points below the general pool cutoff. We monitor every draw and alerts clients within hours when a category draw matches their profile.
