A Canadian visitor visa (TRV) application is primarily an assessment of whether the officer believes you will leave Canada when required. Strong evidence of ties to your home country is the single most important factor. This checklist covers everything you need.
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond intended stay in Canada
Show travel history and previous visa applications
Previous travel to Canada, USA, UK, Australia strengthens credibility
Show sufficient funds for the duration of your visit. Sudden large deposits before application are a red flag.
If staying with family/friend in Canada: their bank statements, employment letter, and a letter of invitation
Land title, vehicle registration - shows financial stability and reason to return home
MUST include: position, salary, approved leave dates, statement that your position will remain after your return. This is the single most important document for employed applicants.
Business registration, tax returns, contracts - showing an active business you must return to run
Spouse, children, dependent parents still in home country - strong compelling reason to return
Enrollment letter, schedule for after Canada visit
Clear explanation of why you are visiting Canada, who you will stay with, planned itinerary, and when you will return. Keep it factual and specific.
Include host's name, status in Canada, address, your relationship, duration of stay, financial responsibility statement
Strong proof of intent to leave Canada on a specific date
Read the refusal letter carefully - it states the officer's specific concerns. A new application must directly address each concern. VMC specializes in rebuilding refused visitor visa applications. Simply reapplying with the same documents will result in another refusal.
A visitor visa itself does not determine how long you can stay - the border officer decides at the port of entry, typically 6 months. Your actual authorized stay is stamped in your passport or on your visitor record.
